About

Hi, I’m Sarah. Crunchy, not crazy.

I’m a mom of three girls, and I’ve been crunchy since 2008, the year my first daughter was born. Real food, homemade cleaners, cloth diapers, elderberry syrup on the stove… I’ve done all of it. Some of it I still do. Some of it I happily buy now. Crunchy SuperMom is where I tell you which is which.

How this whole thing started

In 2014, right after my third baby, I got really sick. It was something called vestibular neuritis, so think nonstop vertigo, throwing up, and some days I couldn’t even see straight. I spent most of that year in bed. There were days I couldn’t carry my five-month-old from my bed to her nursery.

And here’s the funny part. Before all that, moms were always asking me how I did it all. So, stuck in bed with nothing but my phone and a lot of feelings, I finally wrote it all down. Every routine. Every recipe. Half of me honestly hoped it would scare people off. It didn’t. People actually used them, it changed things in their houses, and that pile of routines turned into Crunchy SuperMom.

Then SuperMom died (sort of)

I had this beautiful, pristine routine for our natural home, and for a while I just couldn’t keep it up. I even wrote a post saying SuperMom was dead. And honestly? A version of her was.

But she came back. Older, a lot less precious, and way more fun to be around. I made my own cleaners for almost twenty years, and now I buy most of them. I still cook real food, but some weeks dinner comes in a box from Hungryroot. I’m still holistic to my core, and I’m also open to new things when the natural stuff isn’t getting me where I need to be. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. It can be both.

What I believe

Three things I’m sure of.

Crunchy, not crazy.

You don’t have to read every label in your house or panic every time someone mentions a new thing to be scared of. You just have to make good choices, one at a time.

Swap it when it runs out.

Don’t throw everything out tonight. Use up what you have, and when the bottle’s empty, buy the better one. In a couple of months, the stuff your family touches the most is done.

Natural answers for every season of motherhood.

The baby years, the busy years, and the “what is happening to my body” years. I’ve been through all three, and each one asks for something different. Some seasons you make everything from scratch. Some seasons you buy the good version and move on. Both count.

So here’s what you’ll find here: the things I’ve actually tried on my family, and whether they were worth it. What to buy, what to cook, what to swap and what to skip. No scare tactics, and no giant lists with forty options and no answer.
